When God Looks In My Brain

I love it when two things that I like are randomly thrown together. I especially like it when it is a surprise. This was the case when I sat down to watch the most recent episode of Diggnation.

As the episode began, the kids were in Rockefeller Plaza in some MSNBC themed cafe. And who was there playing bartender for them? It was none other than Rachel Maddow! Craziness. She is a part of the conversation throughout the whole episode, but I've just included a small clip here:

Miscellaneous

A.) I saw Kevin and Alex talking about this on Diggnation. It is even crazier and more hilarious than the headline suggests:
Man Paid $2500 To Impregnate Neighbors Wife - Fails 72 Times

2.) Revolutionary ideas brought to you by the Evansville, IN Courier & Press:
Watering can an efficient ally in fight to save plants during drought

III.) Here is something to watch:

Should We Be Doing More To Reduce The Graphic Violence In Our Dreams?

I thank you for your time.

Sam Rockwell Goes Lunar

This seems to steal some atmosphere and themes from 2001: A Space Odyssey, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

The Birdhouse

Heidi has mentioned several times that she wants to get wind chimes for our porch. What better place to look for wind chimes than downtown Madison, Indiana? And look for wind chimes is exactly what we did while we were there for a wedding last weekend. Here is the model she chose. I like it because it won't obnoxiously make noise under the slightest breeze.

While strolling down Main St, We walked by The Birdhouse (their web page seems to be lacking in competence but I put the link in just in case they get their stuff together), and the both of us immediately thought that if there was any place in this town that would have wind chimes, this would be the place. Oh, they had wind chimes...and so much more.

For starters, they had a store cat which is always nice. As the name suggests, they also had a variety of "bird stuff" and other back yard nature fodder. We quickly found the wind chime area and Heidi began her hunt for the perfect one.

As she shopped, I continued looking around. As I reached the back of the store, I saw an interesting sign: "Nature Trail." At first, I thought it was another piece of decor for sale. Then, I noticed an arrow pointing to an open door leading into the basement and a sign asking for children to be accompanied by an adult. I thought I'd better have a closer look at this. I let Heidi know (intriguing her as well) and headed down.

This informational sign mentions man mad water!

After educating myself on Backyard Wildlife Habitat, I continued down into the basement to walk the nature trail. I didn't spend much time reading the educational material around the basement...er...nature trail, but I was pretty impressed with the amount of time and resources that must have been spent creating a quaint little nature walk in the basement of a store located less than five miles from a state park.

As the trail winds in a simple loop filling the entire basement, all around you are digital reproductions of what is most likely sounds of Indiana "back yard" wildlife. Everywhere you look there are hundreds of ideas on how to decorate your back yard (or basement). Nature, however, isn't always as relaxing as plaster rocks and bird song CDs...

Turning the corner at the back of the nature trail...er...basement, I saw a frightful sight! A hole in the foundation of the west wall was emanating an eerie red glow, and lo! Through the crimson blaze, there appeared a figure that sent shivers down my spine and continues to haunt my dreams to this very day. The rare Indiana Giant Tarantula! This elusive and reclusive species makes its home in the walls of basements all across the Hoosier state. If you don't eat your vegetables, it comes and steals you away in your sleep!

There was also an area with bats and strobe lights. I did not take a picture of this.

Toddy's Branch! Copeland Ridge! Canaan! I am Home!

Last weekend, Heidi was in a wedding at the Indian-Kentuck Baptist Church which is near Canaan, Indiana. According to the historical marker out front:
Indian-Kentuck
Baptist Church
EST. 1812

The second oldest Baptist Church in Indiana. This congregation has moved three times, and has had five church buildings. The first location was on Toddy's Branch, the second, Copeland Ridge, the last three were erected on the present site. The fourth church (which was on the present site), was destroyed in the April 3, 1974 tornado. The present building was dedicated September 28, 1975.
Luckily, Canaan is only 20 minutes or so from Madison, Indiana where we stayed. Although I've heard about Madison from many people and am aware that there is a relatively famous boat race there, I've never actually been there. Historic downtown is pretty nice.

As you might expect, there are many of your typical touristy shoppes there. Heidi found a nice wind chime at one of these places, but more on this later. There were a few interesting coffee shops though we only went to Madison Coffee & Tea Co. According to Heidi, it was fabulous! I liked it too.

For me, the highlight of our downtown promenades was The Red Pepper. There were lots of good looking food items on the menu. We had a hard time deciding. I ended up going with the Pesto Turkey Panini thereby making my tongue and tummy content. Heidi was also very satisfied with her California Club.

Aside from strolling up and down a good portion of Main St and walking on the river walk. We also managed to spend a couple of hours in Clifty Falls State Park. The park really isn't that big, but there are several small waterfalls and some decent hiking. We drove down to where Tunnel Falls is, walked down to have a look at it and hike a little bit of the trail there. We were dressed for a wedding rehearsal and dinner, so we were ill equipped for a jaunt through the tunnel/cave that was on the trail.

All in all, it was a nice little get away as Across Indiana has probably already informed many. We hit up a small Indiana town and attended a small Indiana wedding.

Congratulations to Lisa and Josh Roberts!

Jon Watches the Watchmen

It's about time somebody asked these people who are acting like journalists to start behaving like journalists as well.

There are three parts to this (this will lead to the second one), and they all bring something to the table.

This is isn't quite as serious, but it continues a theme.

A Booka is a Ball

I seem to remember a certain jr high convocation where a new and growing sport made its debut to an audience of students looking for the next big way to play. Man, Sepak Takraw sure has come a long way!
